Born in 1931. Received a Post Graduate Diploma in Painting from MS University, Baroda. Recipient of several awards including the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1956, and for three consecutive years thereafter, the Mainichi Award at the Tokyo Biennale in 1965, a gold medal at the Third Indian Triennale in 1975, and the Padma Shri from the Government of India in 1985. Was honoured by the Delhi Sahitya Kala Parishad for his lifetime contribution in the field of Fine Art.
